If you’re not much of a builder, but also not much of a designer, you’re in luck. Because not only can you download and install a CMS like Joomla or WordPress, you can also download a very nice template for it, so that you can have a functional website that also looks good. Sometimes they’re free; sometimes you have to pay over a hundred dollars. Keep in mind that paid ones are not better by default; they’re just made by more commercial people. You can find templates on the following sites.

OSSkins
www.osskins.com
OSSkins is a very large website that has templates for open-source platforms like Drupal, Joomla and WordPress. You can buy some of them for a fixed price, others require a membership. And if you don’t want to pay, just click the free section, they’re also very nice.

RocketTheme

These guys are in one word: brilliant. I have to admit, you pay a lot for it, you have to get a subscription, but these guys don’t just design templates, they design little miracles. And don’t worry about uploading and configuring a template. Just download a complete Joomla package including the template, and install the whole thing at once.

ThemeLayout
www.themelayout.com
A very good looking website with a very clear interface. The themes that are meant for WordPress and Joomla look very nice and very professional, but sadly they know how to charge you for it. You can get them cheap through a subscription, but if you want to buy it exclusively, you pay between 600 and 1200 dollars.

MamboHut
www.mambohut.com
Don’t let the name confuse you. Yes they have templates for Mambo, but they also have a lot of templates for Joomla. And whey I say a lot, I mean a LOT. Also nice is the fact that they have a lot of administrator templates that will make the admin part a little nicer. One of the oldest template sites around.

Template Monster
www.templatemonster.com
Without a doubt the biggest template website out there. They have templates for just about any kind of open-source platform, and they have a great way of presenting them. It’s a very commercial site though, so prepare to grab your wallet.
